The Indo Daily: The mysterious death of farmer Liam Farrell and the family who want answers
“When I got to the back door, I didn’t recognise this man as my dad… it was a horrific scene.”
The mysterious death of Leitrim farmer Liam Farrell has haunted his family for almost five years.
Now, they’re pushing for a new investigation into the events of January 2020, when the body of the 87-year-old was discovered by his daughter on the grounds of his property.
Mr Farrell was a hard worker and popular in his local community. He had gone out for a few drinks on a Saturday evening, as was his usual weekend routine.
The last person who saw him alive noted he was in great form as he made his way home that night, only for tragedy to strike in the hours that followed.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Mr Farrell died of a heart attack.
However, due to the strange circumstances in which he was found, his family believe foul play led directly to his death.
Recently, they enlisted private investigators who uncovered evidence that suggests there may be more to this case than meets the eye.
On this episode of The Indo Daily, host Fionnán Sheahan is joined by Liam Farrell’s son, Brendan Farrell, and Irish Independent correspondent Paul Williams. They examine the details of a deeply emotional and complex case.
