Abundant October sunshine; potentially record warmth still on track early next week

October sunshine to continue its torrid pace, currently we have seen nearly 1.5 times more sunshine than is typical for October

Seasonably cool weekend followed by surging temperatures, including the potential for record breaking warmth early next week

Tuesday’s forecast high of 81-degrees not only would exceed the old record for the date (78-degrees in 1999) but it would also mark the warmest temperature this late in the season since 1950! 

  • October 30, 1950: 85-degrees 
  • October 31, 1950: 84-degrees 
  • November 1, 1950: 81-degrees 

Shifting jet-stream behind the big warm-up early next week 

Saturday’s NW upper-level flow delivers cooler, Canadian air into Chicago while near record heat takes place out west. 

By late Monday,  a ridge builds across the Midwest and upper-level steering winds shift southwest bringing unseasonably warm air into the region.
