Cal Fire contains blaze on Highway 17 in Santa Cruz County

(KRON) — The Cal Fire San Mateo – Santa Cruz Unit has contained a 1.3-acre blaze on Highway 17 near Glenwood and Summit roads. Cal Fire confirmed at 9:02 p.m. Saturday that forward progress on the fire had been stopped.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Santa Cruz Division reported that the far-right lane of southbound SR-17 at Glenwood Cutoff was closed due to the fire. At 10:05 p.m. on Saturday, CHP announced on its X account that the lane was expected to reopen in about three hours.

At 7:48 p.m. Saturday, Cal Fire first posted a video of the blaze, urging drivers to use alternate routes. In the post, Cal Fire stated that “fire traffic is working in the area and more resources are arriving,” and noted that power lines are also down.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department announced that it was conducting evacuations in Alta Vista, though no other evacuations have been reported.
