Noel Tata Unanimously Chosen As Chairman Of Tata Trusts; All About Ratan Tata’s Successor

Noel Tata, Ratan Tata’s half brother has taken over as the Chairman of Tata Trusts. His succession comes just two days after the latter’s death.

According to reports, Noel was chosen unanimously by the board of Tata Trusts on Friday.

Noel Tata is the son of Naval Tata from his second marriage. The 67-year-old is said to be one of the inner circle members of the late Chairman Emeritus of Ratan Tata. Noel has been involved in the Tata Group for many years in different roles. He is currently the vice-chairman of Titan and Tata Steel.

Besides, he is also working as the chairman of Tata Investment Corp as well as Trent, Tata Group’s retail company which owns Zudio and Westside. He reportedly began his career at Tata International where is now the managing director. He is also a board member at Voltas. Noel made the transition to Tata Group from Nestle in the U.K.

He is a graduate from Sussex University in England and later completed the International Executive Programme (IEP) from INSEAD, a global business school in France.

A citizen of Ireland, Noel was one of the few potential successors in line to lead the conglomerate after Ratan Tata’s demise. The other names were Noel’s daughter Maya – a board member of Tata Medical Centre Trust, his son Neville – head of Tata’s Star Bazaar, and Noel’s other daughter Leah who is a trustee of the Tata Medical Centre Trust. Noel is married to Aloo Mistry, the daughter of Pallonji Mistry, who was the single largest shareholder in Tata Sons.
