Nothing Phone 3a To Debut With Flagship-Level SoC And Camera Features; Check Out Latest Report
In just four years, Nothing has gone from a small accessory maker to a notable name in the smartphone world. Founded by former OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, the company made a bold entrance with its first phone, offering a unique design that quickly caught the eye of tech enthusiasts. Since then, Nothing has expanded its presence, launching a more affordable sub-brand called CMF, which offers similar products at a lower price point. Despite its relatively short time in the market, the brand has gained a loyal following and is positioning itself for future growth.
Nothing shows no signs of slowing down, with buzz already building around their next batch of smartphones. Android Authority recently uncovered some fresh details about upcoming models, thanks to information found in the beta version of Nothing OS 3.0. While the focus has often been on Nothing’s flagship phones, these new leaks shed light on what’s coming for the mid-range segment, specifically the Phone 3a and Phone 3a Plus.
According to report, Nothing might be making a big change in the chips powering its mid-range phones. The company is reportedly looking to switch to new System on Chips (SoCs) for the Phone 3a and 3a Plus. The latest beta version hints at three possible codenames: “asteroids,” “asteroids_plus,” and “galaga.” Though it’s not confirmed which model each codename belongs to, Siddiqui believes they might correspond to the Nothing 3a, 3a Plus, and the CMF Phone 2.

One major upgrade to look forward to is the potential switch to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset for the Nothing Phone 3a and 3a Plus. If this is true, it would mean a significant boost in performance for Nothing’s mid-range phones, making them even more competitive. The CMF Phone 2, on the other hand, might feature a MediaTek SoC, pointing to a clear difference in strategy between the two sub-brands.
In addition to new processors, the upcoming phones may come with upgraded camera capabilities. Leaks suggest that the Nothing Phone 3a could feature a telephoto lens, a feature usually reserved for higher-end devices. Meanwhile, the Phone 3a Plus might include a periscope zoom camera, offering even more advanced zoom options.
Another intriguing possibility is the addition of eSIM support, allowing users to activate a mobile plan without needing a physical SIM card. While it may seem like a small addition, this would give users greater flexibility to switch carriers or plans on the go, and for phones with physical SIM slots, it could open the door for dual-SIM functionality.
While all these details come from code found in Nothing OS 3.0, and things could change before the official release, the potential upgrades paint an exciting picture for the brand. If the leaks are accurate, 2025 could be a big year for Nothing as they continue to innovate and push the boundaries of smartphone design and technology.
