Shortly after 11pm tonight, three police vans were still in the street and officers were not allowing residents to pass through the cordon unless they lived in one of the houses within it.

An alley off Vyner Street also appeared to be cordoned off.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “We are dealing with an incident in the Haxby Road area of York which has led to a large police presence in the area. Further updates will be provided in due course.”

The Press will publish details as soon as they are available.
