Sexyy Red Voted For Kamala Harris After Last Year’s Trump-Supporting Comments

Sexyy Red changed her tune about the 2024 presidential election.

A year ago, Sexyy Red (real name Janae Nierah Wherry) publicly supported former president Donald Trump based upon an incorrect assertion about pandemic-era loans.

In 2023, on Theo Von’s This Past Weekend web show, the St. Louis rapper said, “Yeah, they support [Trump] in the hood. At first, I don’t think people were fuckin’ with him. They thought he was racist, saying little shit against women. But once he started getting Black people out of jail and giving people that free money. Aww baby, we love Trump.”

Let’s chat about all things 2024 Election

“We need him back in office. We need him back because, baby, them checks. Them stimulus checks. Trump, we miss you,” she continued.

In Sexyy Red’s defense, she wasn’t the only rapper trumpeting this rhetoric surrounding Trump and pandemic-era loans. Even rapper YG, who famously created the song “FDT (ft. Nipsey Hussle),” even said on Theo’s show, “I ain’t gonna lie… the Black community was not fuckin’ with Trump. But when that PPP shit and all that shit came out, Black people forgave him.” YG even claimed that people in his neighborhood claimed President Joe Biden “ain’t did nothin’ for us, that nigga Trump passin’ out money.”

The reality is that the money received during the height of the pandemic resulted from the Coronoavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES), created by and voted on by Congress and issued by the federal government. At the time, President Trump just signed the bill into law. You might remember how a bill is made into law if you paid attention briefly while Schoolhouse Rock! was playing in your elementary classroom.

In 2023, Sexyy Red even wore a hat that read “Make America Sexyy Again” and posted on X that she wouldn’t publicly support any candidate in the election. “It’s Sexyy Red 4 President 🇺🇸 I’m my own candidate. I’m not endorsing anybody, period,” she wrote.

Things have certainly changed.

On Nov 1, the “Get It Sexyy” rapper posted on X, “I just voted!!! Don’t tell us what to do with our coochies!! #Kamala4President,” along with a couple of photos with “I Just Voted” stickers on her butt and chest.

The rapper’s switch-up received mixed reactions, with some praising her endorsement during early voting in Missouri and others questioning if she’s a necessary Harris ally in the election.

Although it only came a few days before the election, Sexyy Red joined other celebrities publicly endorsing Harris, like Cher, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Megan Thee Stallion, Bruce Springsteen, and more.

What is your opinion on celebrity endorsements for presidential candidates? Are they helpful? Harmful? Or necessary?
