Starbucks to remove extra fee for non-dairy milks

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Starbucks will no longer charge extra for non-dairy milk in the U.S. starting Nov. 7, the company announced Thursday.

The change will launch alongside the holiday menu and aims to make customizing drinks simpler and more affordable for customers, according to a news release.

“By removing the extra charge for non-dairy milks, we’re embracing all the ways our customers enjoy their Starbucks,” said Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol.

Substituting non-dairy milk, such as soymilk, oat milk, almond milk, or coconut milk, is currently the second most popular customization among Starbucks customers, just after adding a shot of espresso, according to the release.

This move is expected to lead to a price reduction of more than 10% for nearly half of Starbucks’ U.S. customers who modify their beverages with non-dairy milk at company-operated stores.

Nichols added the change was just one of many the company expects to make to streamline customer experience.
