The Glasgow 850 Volunteer and Employability programme will offer Glaswegians the chance to play a key role in the city’s birthday year, with positions available at major events and within community projects.
Unlike typical volunteer programmes that recruit and train people for specific roles as part of a one-time event, the Glasgow 850 scheme will keep volunteers informed about a rolling programme of volunteer and learning opportunities throughout the anniversary year.
This approach, developed with Volunteer Glasgow, offers participants the chance to engage in various activities at their own pace, providing more flexibility and choice than traditional volunteer schemes.
A major goal of the programme is to create a legacy by helping young people, in particular, develop skills that will improve their employability.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn about different career pathways and roles within specific industries, including events and music, through a series of learning academies.
They will also gain practical experience that could open doors to future career opportunities.

Bailie Annette Christie, chair of Glasgow Life, said: “Throughout 2025, the city will host an array of events and activities to mark Glasgow 850.
